The benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar on the Skin
At Anicura, we were so impressed at the relief that ACV provided to pets suffering from itchy and irritated skin, that we chose it as one of the main ingredients of our Gel Ointment for Dogs and Cats!

Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) may seem a recent health phenomenon, but Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine, was reportedly using vinegar for wound cleaning in 400BC!  Fast forward more than 2000 years and unpasteurised ACV, in its raw and organic form, is said to have many health benefits, from assisting the absorption of vitamins and minerals by increasing stomach acid, to neutralising the sting from a jelly fish (if you’re lucky enough to be carrying some around with you at the time!)

Just as with humans, ACV can provide a long list of health benefits to animals too and today we want to focus on its helpful properties for skin.

There can be many reasons why your cat or dog may have itchy, dry or irritated skin, including central heating, food allergies and chemicals in the air or applied to the skin in creams or lotions.  These may disrupt the delicate balance of the skin’s pH value, which is usually around 5.5, making it slightly more acidic than the rest of the body which is generally more alkaline.

If acidity levels are disrupted, the skin becomes vulnerable when exposed to irritants and germs.  ACV, in particular, can be beneficial because it contains healthy enzymes, anti-bacterial properties and acetic acid. These components may correct the imbalance and return the skin to its natural pH level, resulting in happier skin and a happier pet!  If your cat or dog’s coat is looking a little lackluster and the skin looks dry, the properties of ACV may soften the skin which, in turn, will return the coat to its former brilliance.

Here at Anicura, we are so impressed at the relief that ACV provided to pets suffering from itchy and irritated skin, that we chose it as one of the main ingredients of our Gel Ointment for Dogs and Cats!

Along with the naturally active ingredient Sea Buckthorn, Apple Cider Vinegar has been carefully selected for its bio-scientifically proven ability to maintain healthy skin. The Gel Ointment will soothe and nourish the skin and works well in combination with Anicura Dog Spray. The Spray, with its 15 natural oils and extracts will sink deep into the skin to help with any itchiness and inflammation, whereas the Gel will support broken skin and stimulate the natural healing process.

If you have any questions regarding ACV in our products, always make sure to contact us on info@anicura.co.uk or 020 8979 3592.

Many thanks!

Claudia & our CEO Bella
